you have to go slow to go fast

almost all my martial arts teachers preached this doctrine
in one form or another
we often feel pressured to learn something quickly
but anything worth learning
is worth learning in your own time
and worth learning down to first principles
what are the pieces of this?
where does it fit in the big picture?
why am I learning it?
of what use will it be?
what fundamental am I missing to understand this more completely?
or at all?
where can I find it in a way that best suits me?
with this perspective
learning becomes an unfolding
into solid understanding and ability
and a rewarding pursuit in its own right
